"STOP TALKING, START CLEANING THE OCEANS".. 😏

Was wirklich sehr traurig wäre..

Hier müsste es nun heißen "Stop talking, start cleaning the oceans"..

"STOP TALKING, START CLEANING THE OCEANS". 😏

A great initiative no doubt, and if you are a diver like I am, then you know that it is long overdue to do something about the pollution and massive garbage in the oceans all over the world. And not only the tonnages of obvious plastic waste are meant... Well, hardly a week goes by without mentioning the "Pacific Garbage Screening" campaign and in particular the handsome architect who founded the initiative. The marketing machinery is up and running and donations should also be collected massively, or not?

Now we already had the "Ocean Cleanup" project, which failed technically. Unfortunately the collected money did not help there so far. At least I haven't seen a positive update, to date...

How far has "Pacific Garbage Screening" progressed in its real implementation?
Or are we talking about public relations work, only, which has a resounding effect due to the front woman, at least in the press? But to be honest, it would be even nicer if we talk less about it and do something about it! Don't you think???
Otherwise, donations will go up in smoke at events and the corresponding trips around the world and nothing will be effectively cleaned...
Which would really be very sad...

From a technical point of view, it is necessary to think about fluid mechanics under consideration of real conditions in the open sea. As we learned in the "Ocean Cleaning" project, a virtual model is not enough to achieve reliable and realizable results! Moreover, it is nonsense to use this system at "hotspots". That would be like putting an excavator in front of a heap and assuming that the shovel gets filled by itself. Due to the toothed and compacted plastic mountain, nothing will happen, if there is not an active "extraction activity" taking place!!

How was the slogan of Felix Finkbeiner a few years ago "Stop talking, plant a tree", now a well lubricated machine thanks to his father...
Here the slogan should be "STOP TALKING, START CLEANING THE OCEANS"...
